From Uncertain to Unstoppable: JaRiyyha H.

As a high school student struggling with a lack of confidence and direction, JaRiyyha first learned about Real World from her cousin. At first, she wasn't at all interested in joining — or really anything at that time — but she decided to try it out. It was that leap of faith that changed everything.

“Real World opened my eyes and made me realize that I was in control of my life. I didn't know how to apply for jobs or take charge of my life, and now I do.”

Real World helped her see that she was in the driver’s seat and connected her to opportunities she wasn't even aware were out there. She learned how to apply for jobs, gained confidence, and discovered her own leadership skills — so much so that she became a StepUp THRIVE Summer Camp counselor!

“The Real World classes are helpful, informative, and actually fun. It's not like school, where it’s all about homework—here, we're learning real-life skills in a way that keeps us engaged. I’ve learned more about the world and even discovered my own leadership skills.”

Once very undecided about her education or college plans, today JaRiyyha is finishing high school online while working part-time and exploring future options she learned about through Real World, such as childcare and youth therapy. Her love for Real World runs deep, and she feels like it’s more than a program — it’s her family.

“Real World has helped me to become a leader. I am taking more control of my life.”
