Finding Focus and Community: Adeeaylaw I. and Emily W.

“StepUp has sharpened my focus as well as inspired me to get more out of life.”

When Adeeaylaw I., first arrived at StepUp Ministry, she was standing at a crossroads. Having recently relocated with her daughters, she found herself trying to figure out what came next. It was the beginning of a new phase — one filled with uncertainty but also potential.

StepUp quickly became a bright spot in that chapter. Adeeaylaw found more than just a program; she found community. “StepUp has provided a sense of community, an awesome support system, and a network,” she says. Beyond tangible lessons she learned about financial literacy and employment success, she gained what she calls “intangible gems,” including renewed motivation and an expanded perspective on what’s possible.

Through the program, Adeeaylaw also connected with her co-partner, Emily W., a longtime StepUp volunteer. Their partnership has become an important part of her StepUp experience, blending practical guidance with genuine encouragement. “Emily helps me ask the right questions, provides helpful suggestions, and supports me anywhere she can."

Professionally, Adeeaylaw now works in accounting at a radio station — a shift from her previous roles in customer service and administration. Personally, she’s thriving. Her advice to anyone considering joining the Life Skills Program is to be open-minded and willing to adjust your life and habits to help get where you want to be.

“StepUp is all-around encouraging and provides support that isn’t always easy to ask for.”
