When SaQuon joined our Employment Academy, his past was holding him back from the future he wanted.

He came into the StepUp community with a pending charge, a history of previous involvement with the justice system, and a tremendous amount of pride. SaQuon's pride was his most significant stumbling block initially, causing him to dismiss stable jobs based solely on their status rather than their overall career potential.

Once he was able to change this limiting mindset, SaQuon took advantage of StepUp’s many resources, both independent and collaborative. As a result, he was able to secure a job he wanted and gain the security he had been craving at the start. “He humbled himself as much as necessary to get what he needed to get,” shared Dennis A. Jarmon, Sr., Director of StepUp’s Employment Academy.

SaQuon is currently employed as the Parts Manager with a competitive salary and benefits. Aside from his stable career path, he’s also found a supportive community at StepUp that will be with him for the long haul.
