StepUp Ministry is a Raleigh-based non-profit organization that provides pathways for people to overcome barriers and transform their lives.


















1988

StepUp Ministry was founded by members of White Memorial Presbyterian Church.

1989

StepUp becomes an incorporated, self-sustaining 501(c)(3) organization.

1992

StepUp developed its initial two-step curriculum: First Step: Budget counseling and transitional housing, Second Step: Rental housing.

1996

StepUp sponsored summer camps for our participant’s children.

2002

A phased, incentive-based programming model was implemented.

2004

A significant grant was received through the White Memorial Community Fund to enable StepUp to undertake a new, comprehensive program model.

2005

StepUp moved to a new home on 1701 Oberlin Road in Raleigh.

2006

StepUp celebrated our 500th job placement!

2011

StepUp Greensboro opened its doors.

2013

StepUp celebrated our 2,000th job placement and launched our Real World program for teens.

2015

StepUp Durham opened its doors.

2016

StepUp launched our first We StepUp fundraising campaign.

2018

StepUp Wilmington opened its doors.

2020

StepUp's COVID-19 pandemic response transitioned all programming to virtual.

2021

Triangle Business Journal awarded StepUp Ministry the Leader in Diversity Award.

2023

StepUp staff and the Board of Directors revised our mission and vision statements.

2024

StepUp celebrates our 35th birthday!
