The First Step is Employment

The first step in the process is employment. Our 32-hour, weeklong Employment Training Workshop teaches the skills needed to find and sustain employment: networking, resume writing, how to dress appropriately, strategic planning, effective communication skills, strategic thinking, and interview preparation. Every participant is partnered with a staff employment counselor for support in securing a job. The relationship is 50/50: StepUp uses its resources to provide opportunities, while participants execute the skills they have learned, all in the pursuit of gaining employment.

Employment Training Workshops take place at various locations in Raleigh twice a month. Each week starts on Monday morning at 8AM and will run until about 4PM each day. the week will conclude with a graduation ceremony on Friday afternoon. Participants are REQUIRED to attend all five days of the workshop and must be on time each day.

Keith Richardson
2014 StepUp Graduate

TESTIMONIAL

Keith joined us as an inexperienced apprentice in our Sheet Metal Installation Group in April of 2013. He has progressed rapidly into a junior mechanic, capable of handling additional responsibility. He has a strong drive to improve his skills and take on even greater responsibility. His positive attitude and pride in his work are motivating to all those working around him.

As for all job candidates, but perhaps even more with those from StepUp, we look for ones exhibiting a true desire to come to work each day with that “desire“ to improve and to do the best that they can. We were not wrong about Keith! We think his potential is great!
